Margaret Simmons Joins SIFMA Government Affairs Staff

The Securities Industry and Financial Markets Association (SIFMA) today announced the appointment of Margaret Simmons as managing director of government affairs.

“SIFMA is fortunate to have such a seasoned professional joining its ranks,” said Richard Hunt, SIFMA senior managing director of government affairs. “Her qualifications spanning the entire financial services sector adds real depth to our roster.”

“As a veteran of Washington for over 15 years, Margaret’s resume includes private sector and Capitol Hill experiences that will prove invaluable to SIFMA and our members,” said Scott DeFife, SIFMA senior managing director of government affairs. “We look forward to profiting from her wealth of knowledge and expertise in the financial services sector.”

Simmons comes to SIFMA from the American Insurance Association (AIA) where she served as vice president for federal affairs. Prior to that she was legislative counsel in the office of Senator Thomas Carper (D-DE), where she staffed the Senator on all legislation before the Senate Banking Committee. In other posts off the Hill, Simmons was associate director in the office of legislative counsel for the Mortgage Bankers Association of America as well as vice president and deputy director of federal information at Citicorp/Citibank. She has also worked for the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Institute for Strategy Development. Simmons earned her A.B. from Brown University and her J.D. from the University of Connecticut School of Law.
