London Metal Exchange Introduced New Ring And Kerb Trading Times

Date 21/11/2006

The LME yesterday introduced revised Ring and Kerb trading times for the afternoon open outcry session.

The new times are as follows:

  • The Lunchtime Kerb is now reduced to 1.5 hours, starting at 13.15 hours and ending at 14.45 hours.
  • Ring 3 commences 15 minutes earlier at 14.55 hours.
  • Ring 4 commences 20 minutes earlier at 15.35 hours.
  • The final Kerb trading session has been extended from 25 minutes to 45 minutes commencing at 16.15 hours and ending, as before, at 17.00 hours. The primary aluminium and the two aluminium alloy contracts now close out separately from the copper contract.

The changes introduced today follow a recommendation from the Trading Committee and a full consultation process with members.

Commenting on the introduction, Martin Abbott, LME Chief Executive, said:
“It is vital that the Exchange constantly reviews and refines the way that it operates, along with member and market needs. These changes reflect the evolution of the daily trading activity and will ensure that more effective use is made of the afternoon session.”
