London Calling As Hack-a-TONx Global Hackathon Stages Two-Day Workshop

Date 30/01/2023

The TON Foundation, a non-profit association of developers and enthusiasts that exists to advance The Open Network (TON), will stage a workshop in London, providing developer talent in the capital with an opportunity to build projects that could have a shot of winning a total prize pool of $250,000.

The two-day event, which takes place on Saturday, 25 February and Sunday, 26 February, is organised by Orbs, a layer-3 blockchain. The workshop will play host to the UK capital’s emerging Web2 and Web3 developer talent enabling the building of projects that may herald the next iteration in the development of fintech and blockchain technology.

Teams will be carefully mentored by leading experts in the blockchain space who will hack with participants throughout the 48-hour event. Teams will work to build projects on TON, a revolutionary technology to unite all blockchains and Web2 internet into one open network. TON was born to empower billions of Telegram users with genuine Web3.

“The spark of inspiration resulting in breakthrough innovations can be nurtured at events such as this where teams have the opportunity to be mentored and guided to create amazing projects,” said Tal Kol, Co-founder at Orbs and Ambassador at TON Foundation. “Only the most promising teams will be invited to this exclusive, two-day workshop.”

Attendees at the two-day workshop will have the opportunity to build in a variety of projects, spanning decentralised applications (dApps) for the TON ecosystem and the writing of smart contracts for TON’s revolutionary async VM. In addition, teams will be able to showcase a consumer-grade integration of a Web3 experience inside Telegram messenger using Telegram’s JavaScript TWA API. Developers without an invite to the event can still submit their BUIDL until March 22, 2023.

“If you’re a London-based developer who really believes that you have what it takes to be a winner in Hack-a-TONx this is a unique opportunity to both showcase your skills and learn from masters of coding,” said Justin Hyun, Head of Incubation at the TON Foundation. “Developers and teams can then throw their hat into the ring for the online portion of the hackathon as the submission window is two-months long. As a city with a great depth of developer talent, we are confident that this London event will showcase some of the brightest and best that we see building in our space.”

Hack-a-TONx DoraHacks, a 2-month long virtual hackathon staged in collaboration with DoraHacks, a global leading hacker organization that acts as a bridge, connecting hackers to enterprise challenges and entrepreneurial ideas, will offer participants a total prize pot of $250,000 in Toncoin (TON).

The hackathon starts today at 11:00 am GMT with tracks including: Decentralized finance (DeFi), Social/Decentralized Identifier (DID), Non Fungible Token (NFT)/Soulbound Tokens (SBT), Decentralized Autonomous Organization (DAO), Gaming, Web3 Services (Metaverse), Web 2.5 (The Ultimate Challenge) and Web2.5 (Webaverse).

The truly global event will involve a variety of online onboarding and mentoring along with invite-only, on-site meetups in 12 major cities, including Seoul, Hong Kong, Ankara, London, Tel Aviv and Dubai.

The hackathon will also be a headstart to submissions for The Open Challenge (TOC), a metric based TON awards program. Furthermore, teams that make it to the finals in the contest may have the opportunity to travel to Dubai on an all-expenses trip and meet the TON Foundation leadership team and investors.

GitHub repo is required and live demo recommended. Teams can close-source GitHub repo during the hackathon but are required to open-source upon completion of the submission period. Teams can opt for open-source under BSL 1.1, which stipulates that the codes cannot be used for commercial purposes by other parties.

Registration for the event is available at the DoraHacks website where applicants will be able to submit BUIDLs until March 22, 2023.
