Turnover

The total turnover of securities on the Exchange amounted to SIT 125.87 billion in the first six months of 2000. It was almost SIT five billion higher than the value of securities traded during the same period in 1999. The average monthly turnover in the first half of the year thus reached SIT 20.98 billion. Monthly turnover during the whole year of 1999 was slightly above SIT 22 billion.

In the period concerned, the share of turnover of different types of securities in the total turnover, on all three segments of the Ljubljana Stock Exchange, was as follows: shares accounted for 51.68%, bonds reached 25.83%, short-term securities 1.12% and shares of investment funds made up 20.56% of the total turnover. The share of the official market in the total turnover in six months was 55.13%. The average number of transactions per day was 1,806 or on average 37,321 transactions per month. The daily average of transactions was 1,760 in the year 1999. The number of shares of companies traded was 14.523.724 and the number of shares of investment funds traded was 539,323,459. The average daily turnover was SIT 1,015 million vs. the average of SIT 1 billion recorded in 1999

The most traded shares on the Exchange official market were Petrol (SIT 5.76 billion), Mercator (SIT 4.88 billion), Krka (SIT 4.49 billion), Lek A (SIT 3.88 billion) and Dolenjska banka (SIT 2.99 billion). The turnover of Gorenje on the free market reached SI 2.89 billion. Those six issues represented 19.77% of the total turnover of the Exchange and 38.26% of the turnover of shares. The most traded bonds were: bonds of the Republic of Slovenia 9th issue, bonds of the Compensation Fund of RS, bonds of RS 10th issue, bonds of Autocommerce 1st issue and bonds of RS 12th issue These five issues represented almost two thirds (63.65%) of the turnover of bonds on the Exchange and 16.44% o the total turnover. The most traded shares of PIDs were Infond Zlat, Triglav Steber I, Atena Dve, Nacionalna inancna druzba 1 and Nacionalna inancna druzba 2.

From the beginning of January until the end of June 2000, ten most active Exchange members concluded 54% of the total turnover. The most active members were Ilirik (7.35%), Perspektiva (7.03%), Nova Ljubljanska banka (6.73%), Publikum (6%) and Mariborska BPH (5.85%).

Block trading

In six months, 594 block trades were reported by the Exchange members, with a total value of SIT 70.48 billion. The highest turnover of block trades as reported in March - 129 trades with the total value of SIT 17.28 billion. The value of block trades represented more than half (56%) of the total turnover in the period concerned and as much higher than its average level of 49% in 1999. The average value of a block trade in the six months of 2000 was SIT 118.7 billion.

Indices

The Slovenian Stock Exchange Index - SBI

From the opening level of 1,806.26 points at the beginning of the year 2000, the SBI index increased to 1,903.66 points by 25 January 2000. After this date, the index started to decline and fell below the level of 1,800 points at the beginning of March. From that point on its value remained in the range between 1,700 and 1,800 points and dropped to 1,697.04 points on 5 May. The index reached its lowest point on 25 May, at the value of 1,584.23 points and finished May at 1,635.21 points. SBI lost 0.68% of its value in June and as at 1,624.17 points at the end of the first half of 2000, which results in a negative semi-annual return of 10%.

Index of Authorised Investment Funds - PIX

On 31 December 1999, the value of PIX was 1,483.5 points, then in only two weeks it increased to 1,572.13 points. This was also the highest value of the index in 2000 up to now. A sharp decline followed - the index dropped below the level 1,500 points in two weeks and below the level of 1,400 points in the following three. On 28 March, the value of PIX was as low as 1,292.98 points. We saw a short period of recovery in the first half of April, then it moved into the zone above 1,300 points, but May was again an unfavourable month for PIX - it lost more than 4% of the value. It reached its lowest level on 25 May - 1,097.07 points. Until 30 May its value increased to 1,217.05 points and the growth continued and reached 1,340.46 points on 9 June. It ended June at the value of 1,254.61 points. One year ago, the value of PIX was 995.26 points, resulting in an annual return of 26% and a negative semi-annual return of 15.46%.

The Stock Exchange Bond Index - BIO

In the year 2000, the Bond Index BIO started trading at the value of 108.5 points then its value decreased in the first few trading days to 106.13 points. In all the following months its value moved in the range between 106 and 107 points until it declined to 105.98 points on 18 May. The lowest point was reached on 9 June at 103.96 points. The value of the index increased to 106.6 points in only three trading days. The index ended June at the value of 105.55 points vs. its value of 106.8 point's one year ago.

Capitalisation

The total market capitalisation of securities, traded on the Exchange (including shares of investment companies) on 30 June 2000 amounted to SIT 1,030.12 billion. It increased from its level of SIT 825.26 billion on 30 June 1999 by 24.82% and 12% in the last six months. The market capitalisation of the shares listed on the official market of the Exchange increased from SIT 408.33 billion to SIT 478.48 billion or by 17.18% in one year's time. The capitalisation shares on the free market increase in the same period by 43.09%. At the end of June 2000, the market capitalisation of all shares traded on the Exchange (official and free markets) (SIT 617.58 billion) made up 16.98% (vs. 15.57% on 31 December) of GDP in the year 1999 - SIT 3,637 billion at current prices.
