KVH To Launch Disaster Recovery Services At Busan Data Center In Korea - Low Priced Packaged Offering Including Ethernet Connecting Tokyo And Busan

Date 07/12/2012

KVH Co., Ltd., Asia’s leading information delivery platform, today announced the launch of its “Busan DR Pack,” a disaster recovery (DR) and back-up services offering for Japanese and multi-national companies starting from today at the Busan Data Center of Koscom, a major Korean IT solutions provider.

The “Busan DR Pack”, which includes colocation services for one rack at Koscom’s Busan Data Center and 10Mbps KVH Global Ether-WAN, a low latency network connecting Tokyo and Busan, is available from 199,800 yen per month (excluding tax). This cost-efficient package introduces a simple way for enterprise customers to implement their DR and backup plans without the burdens of high costs. The package offers 24 x 7 bilingual support from a single point of contact to handle inquiries and requests regarding data center, network, and colocation services. Customers can also use various other support services, including procurement, configuration and installation of equipment, remote monitoring, and on-site support available with Korean translation services upon request.

KVH is offering highly reliable and redundant DR/BCP services to address the mission critical needs of financial service companies by leveraging its own four data centers, seven partner data centers, and network services in Japan. Since the Great East Japan Earthquake in 2011, demand for BCP/DR has significantly increased as businesses need to enhance their DR measures and ensure a stable power supply by geographically dispersing data center sites and using offshore locations.  However, many businesses are struggling to afford a secondary site at the similar cost of a primary site, depending on their IT system strategy and priorities. By offering a low priced service leveraging Koscom’s Busan Data Center, KVH will meet a wide range of customer needs for DR/BCP.

Busan, which is a 150-minute flight from Tokyo, has gained increased attention as an ideal secondary site due to its geographic location and low seismic risk, and its stable and low-cost power supply. Following a strategic IT solutions partnership agreement with Koscom in June, 2012, KVH has been offering proximity hosting and low latency network connectivity services for the Korean Exchange (KRX) derivatives markets at Koscom’s Busan Data Center. Moreover, KVH opened an office in Korea in March of 2012 as part of its Asia expansion plans to enhance its service offering capabilities in this market. Building on this thorough experience in Korea, KVH will deliver highly reliable services, as it does in Japan, through the new DR package.

KVH will continue to roll out a variety of solutions in and out of Japan based on its data center, network and cloud services to meet the diversifying ICT needs of its customers.
