KVH Is First In Japan To Deliver MEF Carrier Ethernet 2.0 Certified Services - Colt Group, KVH’s Parent Company, Certifies Its Next Generation Ethernet Service “etherXEN”

Date 12/08/2015

KVH’s parent company, Colt Technology Services, today announced that Colt  has achieved MEF Carrier Ethernet 2.0 (CE 2.0) certification for its point-to-point (E-Line), any-to-any (E-LAN) and hub and spoke (E-Access) services. This certification is the basis for both KVH and Colt’s global network services which includes KVH etherXEN, thereby making KVH the first operator in Japan to deliver services compliant with MEF CE 2.0 specifications.

“This certification shows that the design, quality and performance of our Carrier Ethernet services are consistent globally, and conform to the highest and most up-do-date industry standards,” said Zhongmin Guo, VP of strategy and business development, network services at Colt. “Colt is now even better positioned to help enterprise and carrier customers around the world grow their business and expand into new markets. We will continue to invest in our extensive network and improve our services, so we can better serve our customers.”

“We are very pleased to be the first network operator in Japan to deliver MEF CE 2.0 certified services,” stated Yoshiyuki Hamada, Vice President, Technology of KVH. “Having this certification for our etherXEN product portfolio is both a testament to the team’s diligence in meeting the stringent test requirements and well as continuing to strive to deliver Ethernet services aligned to global standards.”

An enhancement to MEF CE 1.0, the first generation of service standards to which Colt already conformed, MEF CE 2.0 focuses heavily on interoperability and interconnection and all testing is performed by an independent third-party. The certification helps end users speed up the selection process of new services and reduce procurement risk. Its development was driven by the rapidly growing and evolving Carrier Ethernet market, in which multi-vendor networks and services are becoming the norm.

Colt and KVH’s Ethernet services are based on the company’s multi-award-winning module MSP platform – a Carrier Ethernet Multi-Service Platform. This fully modular, open and vendor agnostic platform is designed to address the complex connectivity requirements of carriers and large enterprises that need to link their data centres and headquarters with hundreds or thousands of sites across the world. It provides extensive interoperability and interconnection while reducing network complexity and CAPEX – allowing a quick turn-up of data services over multi-vendor networks according to customers’ bandwidth requirements.

“The MEF congratulates Colt for the outstanding achievement of meeting the demanding performance requirements of MEF CE 2.0 certification for multiple Ethernet services,” said Nan Chen, President of the MEF. “MEF CE 2.0 certification builds upon Colt’s success as an award-winning service provider and demonstrates the company’s commitment to excellence and innovation in developing and delivering Ethernet services.”

Last year The Colt Group was recognized by the MEF as an industry leader in Ethernet services with Colt winning six categories in the prestigious “MEF Ethernet Excellence Awards” and KVH receiving “Best Service of the Year – APAC” for the launch of its etherXEN service.

The MEF, the global industry body for Carrier Ethernet, aims to accelerate the worldwide adoption of Carrier-class Ethernet networks and services by defining industry standards and setting a baseline that carriers, service providers and other enterprises can trust.
