In June 2007, total turnover on SWX and virt-x amounted to CHF 230 billion, a 45.5 % gain versus the same month last year. The quarterly comparison reveals an increase of 3.6 % over Q1 2007 and 14.0 % versus Q2 2006. Compared to the first quarter of this year, turnover in individual issues declined somewhat but, on the whole, trading in shares incl. funds rose by 5.6 %. Turnover in ETFs was 27.9 % higher than the comparable prior-year quarter, while securitised derivatives trading recorded a surge of 70.3 %. In the second quarter of 2007, the blue chip SMI® tacked-on 2.59 %, while the broader-based SPI® gained 4.6 % for the quarter. For the year to date, the SMI® has risen 4.82 % and the SPI® is up by an impressive 8.44 %.
