In July 2007, total turnover on SWX and virt-x amounted to CHF 219 billion, 4.5% less than in the previous month. Compared to July 2006, however, that equates to a 71.4% rise, mainly due to a 75% increase in trading of shares (including funds) and a 104.1% bump in ETF turnover. The equity indices are currently on the decline. The blue chip SMI® closed out the month at 8,885.0, which corresponds to a 1.13% gain for the year to date. The broader-based SPI® has recorded a YTD increase of 4.94% by closing out July at 7,271.7 points.
