KCBT Volume Largest In Exchange History - Kansas City Board Of Trade Volume Largest In 150-Year Exchange History

The Kansas City Board of Trade has set a new monthly trading volume record for the wheat futures contract and for the exchange as a whole as wheat futures trading volume topped 500,000 for the first time ever in a single month.

A total of 566,272 contracts were traded at the exchange during June, topping the previous monthly record for the exchange, set in February 2006, by 3.4 percent.

The hard red winter wheat futures contract achieved a new single-month volume record, trading 514,595 contracts, the first time the contract has topped 500,000. The previous monthly record of 492,978 contracts set in February 2006 was exceeded by 4.4 percent.

Hard red winter wheat options volume set a new record for the month of June, trading 51,662 contract versus the previous June record of 48,772 contracts set in June 2002.

Open interest continues to climb, setting new records for the hard red winter wheat futures contract. At June’s onset, the record was 151,451 contracts, set on Feb. 8, 2006. Successive records were set this month, peaking at the close of last Friday’s session at 160,249 contracts.

The Kansas City Board of Trade, founded in 1856, is the world's largest futures market for hard red winter wheat. This year, the exchange is celebrating its 150-year anniversary.
