Kansas City⎯March 3, 2008⎯ The Kansas City Board of Trade trading volume for the month of February was the second largest for that calendar month in the history of the exchange. Total exchange volume amounted to 455,112 contracts, an increase of 25.1 percent compared to last February and 29 percent compared to last month. February total monthly volume is second only to February 2006, which saw trading volume of 547,690 contracts.
The KCBT hard red winter wheat futures contract also saw the second largest volume in the history of the exchange for the month of February. Volume totaled 427,836 contracts, exceeding last February’s volume by 28.5 percent and last month’s volume by 31.7 percent. The previous February monthly record of 492,978 contracts was set in 2006.
Annual exchange volume thus far in 2008 is running 24.1 percent ahead of this time in 2007 and wheat futures volume is running 27.3 percent ahead of last year at this time.
