Kansas City Board of Trade trading volume for the month of March totaled 287,958 contracts, an increase of 10.6 percent when compared to March 2008. The increase was fueled by the hard red winter wheat futures contract, which increased 14.3 percent compared to March 2008.
Open interest increased when compared to the end of last month. Wheat futures open interest at the end of March amounted to 83,519 contracts, an increase of 7.3 percent compared to the end of February 2009. Wheat options open interest of 15,181 contracts was 52 percent higher than the open interest figure at the end of February 2009.
