Trading volume during the month of January exceeded December 2006 volume by 37.6 percent for the exchange as a whole.
The hard red winter wheat futures contract gained 33.4 percent compared to last month, with the wheat options contract increasing by 91percent.
Open interest held nearly steady in the wheat futures contract and increased 28 percent in the wheat options contract.
The Kansas City Board of Trade, founded in 1856, is the world's largest futures market for hard red winter wheat. In 2006, the exchange celebrated its 150-year anniversary.
