KCBT Annual Volume Running Ahead Of 2007 - Annual Exchange Volume 14.1 Percent Ahead Of Last Year At This Time

The Kansas City Board of Trade annual trading volume for the hard red winter wheat futures contract is running 16.7 percent ahead of last year at this time, at 997,994 contracts. Total exchange volume of 1,068,416 contracts is ahead of last year by 14.1 percent.

The hard red winter wheat futures market was very volatile during the month of March, with the nearby contract trading in a $2.60 range, from $10.35 to $12.95 a bushel.

Wheat options open interest expanded in March. An increase of 10.8 percent was seen when compared to the end of March 2007. Open interest increased 17.6 percent compared to the end of last month.
