Kansas City Board Of Trade Trading Volume Second Largest For Month Of August - Year-To-date Volume Continues To Post Large Gains Over 2010

Kansas City Board of Trade trading volume for the month of August was the second largest ever for that calendar month for both the Hard Red Winter wheat futures contract and the exchange as a whole.

A total of 665,415 HRW wheat futures contracts were traded in August, second only in that calendar month to the August 2010 volume of 752,383 contracts which at the time was an all-time volume record. August HRW wheat futures volume posted a 54.9 percent increase over volume traded in July 2011.

Exchange volume for August of 680,022 contracts was second only in that calendar month to August 2010 volume of 765,357 contracts, also an all-time record for the exchange at that time. Total exchange volume in August posted a gain of 54.2 percent compared to last month.

Trading volume continues to post large gains over 2010 trading volume, a year in which new annual volume records were set for the exchange as a whole and the Hard Red Winter Wheat futures contract. Total exchange trading volume is running 36.3 percent ahead of last year at this time, with HRW wheat futures volume running 33.5 percent ahead and wheat options volume running 186.4 percent ahead.
