The U.S. blue-chip Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 2.30% in JULY, closing at 13716.95. Stock market indexes in Europe fell, while indexes in Asia and globally were up in JULY, according to preliminary monthly figures from global index providers, Dow Jones Indexes and STOXX Ltd.

  • The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 2.30% in July, closing at 13716.95. Year-to-date, the index is up 10.06%. (Index calculated in US dollars) . he Dow closed at a new all-time high of 14000.41 on July 19, 2007.

  • Measuring Europe, the Dow Jones STOXX 50 Index is down 1.76% for July, closing at 3877.44. Year-to-date, the index is up 4.87%. (Index calculated in Euros)

  • Measuring Eastern Europe, the Dow Jones STOXX EU Enlarged Total Market Index is up 1.79% for July, closing at 392.77. Year-to-date, the index is up 25.45%. JULY 2007 Sector Winners and Losers

  • In the U.S., the Dow Jones Oil & Gas sector index was the biggest winner in July, posting a 4.72% gain. The Dow Jones Financials sector index posted the biggest loss, dropping 4.83%.

  • In Europe, the Dow Jones STOXX 600 Basic Resources sector index posted the biggest gain, climbing 3.11%. The Dow Jones STOXX 600 Insurance sector index posted the biggest loss, falling 3.01%.

  • In Asia, the Dow Jones Basic Materials sector index posted the biggest gain, climbing 11.13%. The Dow Jones Utilities sector index posted the biggest loss, dropping 0.87%.

  • Globally, the Dow Jones Basic Resources sector index posted the biggest gain, climbing 9.62% in the Dow Jones Sector Titans Indexes. The Dow Jones Financial Services sector index posted the biggest loss, dropping 3.09%.
