Irish Stock Exchange Hosts Global ANNA Conference On 4 – 5 June In Dublin

Date 04/06/2015

The Irish Stock Exchange (ISE) is hosting the international conference of the Association of National Numbering Agencies (ANNA) on 4 - 5 June 2015.

The conference is a key event in the ANNA membership calendar. Representatives from 52 National Numbering agencies (NNAs) around the globe including North and South America, Africa, the Middle East, Asia  and many European countries are attending the event in Dublin.

Opening the conference, Minister Harris said, “I welcome the Irish Stock Exchange’s hosting this truly global gathering of Numbering agencies to Ireland.  ANNA’s important role of setting and maintaining standards for the global financial services industry is key to the day-to-day operations of both domestic and international market participants in Ireland. Clear communication and better access to accurate information on internationally traded securities is a key component to a robust and responsive regulatory environment.”

ANNA is a global membership organisation which sets the industry standard for codes that enable the identification and classification of financial instruments internationally. These standards ensure that information is available in a uniform and accurate structure for the benefit of global markets and the securities industry as a whole.

As an approved Registration Authority, ANNA has remit from the International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO) to promote, develop and maintain the standards for International Security Identification Numbers (ISIN) and Classification of Financial Instruments (CFI) codes for financial instruments which includes bonds, commercial paper, derivatives, stocks and warrants. ISINs are also issued for referential instruments such as indices, commodities and currencies.

Speaking about ANNA, Executive Director & ANNA Secretariat, Uwe Meyer, said “ANNA is at the forefront of implementing international standards ISIN and CFI. In this post-financial crisis environment, we are engaging with regulators who are looking to bring consistency to the identification of securities for regulatory reporting, with a particular focus on derivatives. ANNA is committed to assisting regulators and market stakeholders to ensure the coverage of ISIN and CFI meets the needs of the industry as a whole.”

James Ferguson, Head of Operations at the Irish Stock Exchange said, “The ISE has issued over 100,000 ISIN and CFI codes to Irish entities in line with ANNA standards for 20 years.  We are delighted to host the ANNA conference and welcome our fellow NNA’s from around the globe to Dublin.”
