ING Appoints Maarten Koning Global Head Of Private Markets

ING has appointed Maarten Koning (48) global head of Private Markets, effective February 1, 2026. The newly established Private Markets business line will be a key growth area within ING Wholesale Banking. Private Markets include private equity and infrastructure sponsors as well as real asset managers of banks, sovereign wealth funds, family offices and other alternative capital providers on a global basis. Koning will be based in London. He will be part of the Global Sector Management Team, led by Mark Pieter de Boer, global head of Sectors and the Global Capital Markets and Advisory (CMA) Management Team, led by Horacio Martinez, global head of CMA.
 
Maarten Koning will transition from his current role as global head of Trade & Commodities Finance (TCF). In this role he was responsible for the global TCF activities with teams in Amsterdam, Geneva, New York, Houston, Singapore, Hong Kong and Shanghai. His strong track record in the Commodities, Food and Agribusiness and the Wholesale Bank’s cross-border and cross-functional expertise has helped grow the business area substantially over the past years. The search for a successor of the role of global head of TCF is ongoing.
