With exactly one year to go until the UK, EU and Switzerland make the shift to T+1 settlement, industry leaders are calling on market participants to use the time wisely — not just to prepare for a shorter settlement cycle, but to drive broader transformation across the post-trade ecosystem.
Val Wotton, Managing Director and Global Head of Equities Solutions at DTCC, says the milestone is a timely reminder of what is at stake.
"T+1 is about much more than shortening the settlement cycle. It is a catalyst for change across the post-trade ecosystem," Wotton said.
According to Wotton, the transition presents a unique opportunity for firms to modernise operating models, accelerate automation, improve data quality and strengthen collaboration across markets and jurisdictions. Those that use the next 12 months to reimagine workflows and address long-standing operational inefficiencies, he argues, will be best placed for success in 2027 and beyond.
While acknowledging the significant progress already made, Wotton was clear that considerable work remains. A successful transition, he stressed, will require sustained industry-wide engagement and coordination across the full trade lifecycle.
DTCC has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the industry through this period, citing its solutions, market expertise and ongoing collaboration with clients, policymakers and stakeholders as key pillars of that effort.
"We look forward to working with the industry over the coming year to help ensure a smooth transition and to realise the broader benefits that T+1 can unlock for capital markets," Wotton added.
