Stock Exchange market capitalisation
Today's market capitalisation (Main Board and GEM) set a new high of $11,357,915,755,123.
Stock Exchange turnover
Today's Stock Exchange turnover value was the second-largest in history and the largest this year (see tables 1 and 2 below).
Industrial and Commercial Bank of China (ICBC, stock code: 1398)
ICBC's market capitalisation after the first day of trading in its shares stands at $271,905,832,662, the seventh-largest on the Stock Exchange as of 27 October 2006 (see table 3 below).
Today's ICBC turnover value, $37,452,484,912, was the largest ever for a single listed company on a single trading day (see table 4 below).
Turnover value of derivative warrants on ICBC shares today was $1,256 million, accounting for 15 per cent of the total derivative warrant trading turnover.
ICBC accounted for about 32 per cent of all record-high trades today on the Stock Exchange and set a record for one stock:
- Today's total trades: 439,833 trades (previous record: approximately 400,000 trades recorded in February 2000 on AMS/2)
- Today's ICBC trades: 141,906 trades
Today's ICBC orders reached 244,672, which is a record high for a single stock. ICBC also set a new record today for the number of orders in a single price queue with 8,000 orders in the bid queue in the afternoon trading session.
Stock option turnover
The stock options market turnover reached a record high today. A total of 156,907 stock option contracts were traded. The previous record of 144,596 contracts was set on 27 February 2006.
The ICBC stock options recorded a total of 4,114 contracts on its trading debut today.
Note: The Stock Exchange increased the maximum number of outstanding orders per price queue in AMS/3 (the securities market trading system) from 4,000 to 8,000 on 29 May 2006. The maximum number of outstanding orders per price queue was increased to 4,000 from 2,000 on 21 November 2005.
