Securities market
- The Hang Seng Index (HSI) closed at 21757.63 today, down 2061.23 points, or 8.65 per cent. It was the largest point decline ever and the largest percentage decline since 12 September 2001 when the index was down 8.87 per cent.
- The Hang Seng China Enterprises Index (H-shares index) closed at 11911.91 today, down 1619.54 points, or 11.97 per cent. It was the largest point decline ever and the fourth largest percentage decline.
- Today's securities market turnover value was $156,055 million.
- Today's turnover values for H-share and red-chip companies were $68,347 million and $22,132 million respectively.
- Today's derivative warrants turnover was $34,002 million.
- A total of 1,049,264 trades were concluded today. (The record high was 1,201,263 on 3 October 2007)
- Today's closing market capitalisation* was $16,148 billion. The previous trading day's (21 January 2008) closing market capitalisation was $17,674 billion.
