HKEx Derivatives Market Quarterly Market Statistics

The Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited (HKEx) Derivatives Market has set several daily volume and open interest records since the beginning of the year.

One- and Three-month HIBOR Futures have both set volume and open interest records since 1 January. Three-month HIBOR Futures volume hit a new record high on 2 April when 8,850 contracts were traded, and a new open interest mark was set on 19 March when open interest was 43,231 contracts. One-month HIBOR Futures volume hit a new record high set on 9 January when 800 contracts were traded, and a new open interest mark was set on 3 April when open interest was 3,200 contracts.

In addition, Mini-Hang Seng Index Futures volume was 4,126 contracts on 23 March, exceeding the old record of 3,488 set on 1 December 2000 and the open interest of 3,112 contracts on 27 February exceeded the old record of 1,721 set on 29 November 2000.

Total futures and options trading volume in the first quarter rose 48 per cent from the same period last year, led by a 100.9 per cent increase in stock options volume.
