Global Regulators Elect Securities Commission Malaysia Chairman To Lead Key International Regulatory Committee

Date 29/05/2013

Securities Commission Chairman Datuk Ranjit Ajit Singh has been elected as the Chairman of the Emerging Markets Committee (EMC) of the International Organisation of Securities Commissions (IOSCO).  As the Chairman of the EMC, Datuk Ranjit leads the largest committee within IOSCO, accounting for 86 members worldwide, representing the world’s fastest growing economies, including 10 of the G-20 members.

In his capacity as Chairman of EMC, Datuk Ranjit will also hold the position of the Vice-Chair of the governing Board of IOSCO and will represent the EMC at the Financial Stability Board (FSB).

Datuk Ranjit emphasised that it is timely for emerging markets to contribute to global regulatory discussions to reflect the status and growth potential of these markets.

He added “In light of the complexity of regulation and given the increasingly important role of emerging markets like Malaysia, it is critical that emerging markets are involved in the discussions and design of the global regulatory architecture.”

The SC is committed to building a competitive and resilient capital market, and places significant importance on sharing of regulatory and technical expertise, in particular on cross border enforcement and supervisory initiatives.
