Today Genscape announces its acquisition of Energy Fundamentals GmbH, the developer of the award-winning European Power System Insight (EPSI) platform for power market fundamental analysis. Through the acquisition, Genscape expands its European product portfolio to combine analytics and scenario analysis tools with its own patented, real-time fundamental data for the first time ever. This integration of Energy Fundamentals’ unique EPSI platform enables Genscape to offer analytical products to short and long-term market participants that build on fundamental data with scenarios at the push of a button. By combining the market expertise and modelling capabilities of Energy Fundamentals with Genscape’s existing field operations and data aggregation and mining capabilities, Genscape is able to offer a combination of fundamental data and scenario analysis to the end-user that is unique in Europe.
With this expansion, traders and analysts will gain the ability to observe a power plant trip and calculate the corresponding price impact immediately. This allows for faster evaluation of positions based on market drivers within scenarios. For example, in the French market, users will be able to access minute-by-minute outage information and plant output in advance of publication by RTE and observe the price impact within potential scenario outcomes.
The integration of the EPSI platform will also allow for the construction of long-term scenarios using fundamental outage data which takes into account specific plant operation and recovery. To this end, users can incorporate historical generation data, by portfolio owner, to undertake more efficient asset optimisation and project asset valuation through rapid scenario analysis.
