Gartner Names Panopticon As Cool Vendor For In-Memory Computing - Panopticon Is Profiled In Gartner's First Ever Cool Vendor Report Focused On In-Memory Computing; The Report Was Published On April 23, 2013.

Date 30/04/2013

Panopticon Software, the leading provider of visual data discovery and analysis software for real-time, CEP and historical time series data, today announced it has been named a "Cool Vendor" in the Cool Vendors for In-Memory Computing 2013 report by Gartner, Inc. The April 23, 2013 report was co-authored by Roy Schulte, Roxane Edjlali, et al. This is the first year that Gartner has called out In-Memory Computing specifically as a subject for one of its Cool Vendor reports.

Gartner identified In-Memory Computing (IMC) as one of the top 10 strategic technology trends for 2013 at the Gartner Symposium/ITxpo held in late 2012. Gartner stated that IMC can provide transformational opportunities. The execution of certain-types of hours-long batch processes can be squeezed into minutes or even seconds allowing these processes to be provided in the form of real-time or near real-time services that can be delivered to internal or external users in the form of cloud services. Millions of events can be scanned in a matter of a few tens of millisecond to detect correlations and patterns pointing at emerging opportunities and threats "as things happen." The possibility of concurrently running transactional and analytical applications against the same dataset opens unexplored possibilities for business innovation. Numerous vendors will deliver in-memory-based solutions over the next two years driving this approach into mainstream use. In April 2013, Massimo Pezzini, vice president and Gartner Fellow, stated in the press release, "Organizations that do not consider adopting in-memory application infrastructure technologies risk being out-innovated by competitors that are early mainstream users of these capabilities." Panopticon is a particularly good fit for "Big Data" environments that incorporate in-memory technologies as key components. Panopticon's visual data discovery capabilities allow people to use their intuition to find meaningful – and actionable – information in all the data that is available to them, including real-time streaming feeds from in-memory storage systems as well as message buses and CEP engines.

In the new Cool Vendor report, Gartner recommends that companies adopt IMC application infrastructure technology, even from small vendors, to address advanced requirements such as distributed, high-scale transaction processing, analytics on fast-changing data and real-time visualization of data "in motion." In addition, the report notes that small, focused companies are the primary providers of innovation in IMC,  even with technically excellent offerings, they find it difficult to emerge from their geographical or vertical niches because the rhetoric from the large vendors overwhelms their value propositions.

Willem De Geer, Managing Director for Panopticon, said, "We agree with Gartner's contention that in-memory will be a defining trend in the coming few years, especially in the context of Big Data projects. Our large banking customers, including JP Morgan, Citi and Credit Suisse, are all making in-memory technology a critical part of their infrastructures for monitoring and analyzing risk and performance as well as detecting anomalous trading activity. Being named a Gartner Cool Vendor honors our commitment to our customers as they move into these new deployments."
