FTSE Helps Funds Switch To FTSE All-World

Date 24/08/2000

Following the successful introduction of the FTSE All-World Index, FTSE has brought forward the introduction of additional regional indexes to assist those funds switching their benchmark to the new FTSE All-World series in September.

These additional indexes are in response to fund managers' requests for more calculations on the FTSE All-World series, as many choose to restructure their funds using the new Developed and All-Emerging sub groups within the FTSE All-World series. Fund managers will be making this change after the FTSE All-World quarterly changes are implemented in September.

There has also been significant interest from clients in Asia for additional Asia Pacific indexes.

Mark Makepeace, Managing Director FTSE, commented "I am delighted we have had such a positive response to the launch of the FTSE All-World Index. The encouraging market feedback has persuaded us to push forward with an early introduction of new Developed market and Asia Pacific regional indexes for fund managers. We are now a credible alternative to MSCI worldwide."

Lindsay Tomlinson, Chief Executive Europe, Barclays Global Investors said, "The Developed and All-Emerging sub groups have proved a popular method of structuring investments, and we are seeing fund managers restructuring their portfolios and funds based on these sub groups of the FTSE All-World Index series.",p> The indexes being launched are:

FTSE All-World Developed ex Eurobloc

FTSE All-World Developed ex UK

FTSE All-World Developed ex Japan

FTSE All-World Developed Asia Pacific

FTSE All-World Developed Asia Pacific ex Japan

FTSE All-World Developed Europe-Asia Pacific

FTSE All-World Asia Pacific ex Japan, India and Pakistan

FTSE All-World Asia Pacific ex Japan, Australia and New Zealand

FTSE All-World Asia Pacific ex Japan, India, Pakistan, Australia and New Zealand

All the above indexes will be available from 1 September 2000.

The addition of these indexes to the FTSE All-World Index series enhances the FTSE global offering and builds upon FTSE's reputation as a leading provider of global indexes.

The new FTSE All-World Index series was successfully launched at the end of June 2000 and has attracted significant interest since that date. The new index is supported by Global-Pro, a ground-breaking customised indexation service for investors. Global-Pro allows fund managers to tailor the FTSE All-World Index, choosing the precise make-up of the index to provide a benchmark which exactly matches their investment strategy.

FTSE will be calculating a new FTSE All-World Asia Pacific Electronics and Technology Index based on the FTSE All-World Index series using Global-Pro. The index will include companies within the Asia Pacific region that are classified under the FTSE Global Classification System as IT Hardware, IT Software and Computer Services and Electronic and Electrical Equipment companies. These sectors currently include over 90 constituents and represent total market capitalisation of US$880bn. This index will be available from 1 September 2000.
