These two new indices offer both domestic and international investors a cost effective exposure to the Taiwanese market. The TSEC Taiwan Mid-Cap 100 index contains mid-sized companies, and represents over 20% of the total market capitalisation. The TSEC Taiwan Technology Index contains all information technology companies (as classified by the FTSE Global Classification System). This is the largest industry sector in Taiwan, and covers over 30% of the total market capitalisation.
Mark Makepeace, Chief Executive FTSE Group said, “The combination of FTSE’s global indexing expertise and TSEC’s local market knowledge offers investors an attractive set of tools to facilitate investment in this dynamic market. The success of FTSE’s existing index for Taiwan, the TSEC Taiwan 50, demonstrates the strong investor appetite in the market, and we are confident that the two new indices will enjoy similar success.”
The TSEC Taiwan 50, the first index in the TSEC Taiwan Series, is a highly liquid tradable index launched in 2002. It was the first index of its kind to be developed for the Taiwan market and today is the basis of the Polaris Top 50 Tracker Fund (TTT), one of the largest Exchange-Traded Funds in Asia, with over USD 1 billion under management.
