From October's Trading Places: Heard On The Street - Marijuana Futures Hit New High

The marijuana industry is growing up . Entrepreneurs are laying the groundwork for commoditising the drug with a view to enable futures trading, similar to oil or agricultural futures.

One of the embryonic cannabis futures exchanges is Amercanex, the American Cannabis Exchange, founded by Steve Janjic, a Wall Street veteran with experience in Forex trading. It was recently announced that former NYMEX Chairman Richard Schaeffer, along with his fellow NYMEX Board Member David Greenberg, have joined the Amercanex team.

Amercanex charges between USD2,500 and USD5,000 just for a seat on the exchange.

As the cannabis industry becomes more and more corporate, professionals are bringing their skills and experience to the new emerging cannabis market, but it may be quite a while before the suits take over.
