Five New ETFs On The Spanish Stock Exchange - The Spanish Market’s ETF Segment Increases Its Offering To 32 Funds

Date 20/05/2008

The Spanish stock exchange will tomorrow start trading five new exchange-traded funds (ETFs) issued by Lyxor Asset Management. The funds are Lyxor ETF Brazil (IBOVESPA), Lyxor ETF MSCI EMU Growth, Lyxor ETF MSCI EMU Value, Lyxor ETF World Water and Lyxor ETF DJ Stoxx 600 Banks.

The new exchange-traded funds will enable investors to gain exposure to such diverse sectors as banking and water as well as to trade growth and value companies. Investors also will have the chance to increase their exposure to Brazil with the Lyxor ETF Brazil, the second ETF to be listed on the market after the ETF on the FTSE Latibex Brasil, which was listed in February 2007.

The Spanish stock market’s ETF segment was created on 20 July 2006 and after the incorporation of these ETFs it will comprise 32 funds. The value of trading reported by this segment between January and April 2008 totalled €3.33 bn, which represents a 182% increase on the same period a year earlier.

Exchange traded funds (ETFs) are fund-share hybrid investment vehicles that combine the best of both worlds in a single stock exchange transaction: the diversification of a fund’s portfolio and the flexibility that share trading offers.

These instruments have opened up a wide range of investment opportunities for retail and institutional investors, who are able to gain exposure to different countries, sectors and asset classes through a single stock exchange transaction, in real time and at a lower cost than through other investment vehicles.
