The EasyETF range is making even greater strides forward: after launching 20 new trackers in less than six months last year, it is expanding its offer its yet again with five new additions to the family. The EasyETF Topix tracker further diversifies the range’s geographic coverage and will be available in euros and dollars. Three double-short ETFs, designed to meet hedging requirements due to the financial market decline, are also now available.
EasyETF Topix broadens EasyETF's Asia-Pacific range. EasyETF already boasted a wealth of trackers in the region, with EasyETF TSEC Taiwan, EasyETF DJ South Korea Titans 30, EasyETF DJ Asia/Pacific (excluding Japan) and EasyETF FTSE Xinhua China 25. The new tracker, EasyETF Topix, is dedicated to one of Asia's greatest economic powers: Japan. EasyETF Topix provides near-comprehensive coverage of the country's market capitalisation via over 1,700 companies spanning all sectors.
“Alongside China, Japan holds a position of economic leadership in the Asia-Pacific region. Although the country's exports are currently taking a hit due to the strong yen, Japan still possesses distinctive strengths specific to its economic model, with major world-renowned conglomerates and companies specialising in high value-added new technologies," explained Danièle Tohmé-Adet, Head of the EasyETF platform at BNP Paribas Asset Management.
Three of the new trackers (EasyETF CAC 40 Double Short, EasyETF DJ Euro Stoxx 50 Double Short and EasyETF Stoxx 600 Double Short) are perfect examples of how the range has been adapted to current market conditions. They are in fact inverse trackers, posting a return opposite to that generated by their benchmark index. With the Double Short strategy, it is possible to protect a portfolio (French or European), by investing only half of the amount to be hedged.
This trio of ETFs are the perfect answer to investor requirements today because, despite the ECB’s successive key rate cuts and the massive stimulus plan topping USD 700 billion in the United States, fears concerning the global economic outlook persist and continue to weigh on the majority of Europe's indexes.
“With short strategies, investors are exposed to the opposite performance of a given underlying vehicle. As such, they can be used to hedge a portfolio expected to decline, to take advantage of a bear market, or to carry out arbitrage strategies by combining short and long positions with a view to profiting from performance spreads between two underlying vehicles. Thanks to double short strategies, which are completely transparent and systematic, it is now possible to receive twice the inverse performance generated by the major market indexes,” added Tohmé-Adet.
