FESE Statistics: European Exchanges In 2007

European exchanges’ market capitalisation at the end of 2007 was close to 12,000 billion EUR. Almost 700 million equity trades were done during 2007 which means a 45% increase compared to the year 2006. The annual volume of equity trades on European exchanges was above 22,000 billion EUR compared to 17,000 billion EUR for 2006, a 32% increase.

The number of listed companies in Europe was 12,512 at the end of 2007. This represents an increase of 5% compare to the same period the year before.

Throughout 2007 the number of equity derivatives contracts went up to 1,789 millions while the bonds derivatives reached 1,314 millions of contracts.

December 2007

During the month of December 2007, more than 47 million equity trades were done with a value close to 1,135 billion EUR.

The equity market capitalisation of FESE Member exchanges went up to 11,739 billion EUR, 2.8% increase compared to one year ago.

December 2007 was one of the busiest months last year in terms of companies admitted to listing with 72 companies listed through an IPO totalling 12,512 companies with listed shares.

ETFs trading volumes were at the end of December 43.8% higher than in the same month last year, while the trading volume for Securitised Derivatives were around 4.9% lower.

Bond trading value went down 31.5% compared with one year ago and was close to 590 billion EUR last month.

The number of equity derivative contracts traded has increased by 34.9% year-over-year while bonds derivative contracts decreased by 1.1% during the same period.
