Federation of European Securities Exchanges Welcomes Two New Full Members: International Petroleum Exchange And London Metal Exchange

Date 22/11/2002

The Federation acts as the voice of its Membership to the European Union Institutions and to CESR (Committee of European Securities Regulators). As new EU financial markets directives (on Market Abuse and on Investment Services) concern a broader range of markets, it was considered appropriate to deepen the co-operation of IPE and LME with FESE and to turn this relation into Full Membership.

The International Petroleum Exchange is Europe's leading energy futures and options exchange. The IPE provides a highly regulated marketplace where industry participants use futures and options to minimise their price exposure in the physical energy market.

The London Metal Exchange is the world's premier non-ferrous metals market with highly liquid contracts. In addition to its roles relating to the underlying metals markets (pricing and delivery), the LME provides a market place where participants, have the opportunity to protect against risks arising from movements in base metals prices.

FESE now has 31 Full Members from 18 EU/EFTA countries. The Federation of European Securities Exchanges (FESE) has extended its remit in the past years and encompasses today markets for securities, for financial derivatives and for commodity derivatives from throughout Europe as well as several clearing houses.
