The U.S. blue-chip Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 0.63% in February, closing at 12570.22. Stock market indexes in Europe rose, while indexes in Asia and globally indexes were down in February, according to preliminary monthly figures from global index providers, Dow Jones Indexes and STOXX Ltd.

  • The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 0.63% in February, closing at 12570.22. Year-to-date, the index is down 5.24%. (Index calculated in US dollars)
  • Measuring Europe, the Dow Jones STOXX 50 Index is up 0.50% for February, closing at 3256.89. Year-to-date, the index is down 11.59%. (Index calculated in Euros)
  • Measuring Eastern Europe, the Dow Jones STOXX EU Enlarged Total Market Index is up 3.44% for February, closing at 322.31. Year-to-date, the index is down 11.82%. (Index calculated in Euros)

FEBRUARY 2008 Sector Winners and Losers

  • In the U.S., the Dow Jones Oil & Gas sector index was the biggest winner in February, posting a 8.18% gain. The Dow Jones Telecommunications sector index posted the biggest loss, dropping 7.40%.
  • In Europe, the Dow Jones STOXX 600 Basic Resources sector index posted the biggest gain, climbing 12.49%. The Dow Jones STOXX 600 Telecommunications sector index posted the biggest loss, falling 4.91%.
  • In Asia, the Dow Jones Oil & Gas sector index posted the biggest gain, climbing 9.74%. The Dow Jones Financials sector index posted the biggest loss, dropping 3.26%.
  • Globally, the Dow Jones Basic Resources sector index posted the biggest gain, climbing 8.40% in the Dow Jones Sector Titans Indexes. The Dow Jones Financial Services sector index posted the biggest loss, dropping 5.73%.

Dow Jones-AIG Commodity Index

  • Measuring the global commodities futures market, the Dow Jones-AIG Commodity Index is up 8.69% for February, closing at 209.00. Year-to-date, the index is up 13.00%. (Index calculated in US dollars)
