Europeanissuers Members Appointed To The European Corporate Reporting Lab’s First Project Task Force On Climate-Related Reporting

Date 26/02/2019

EuropeanIssuers would like to congratulate the candidates who were successfully chosen to be a part of the European Corporate Reporting Lab’s first Project Task Force on Climate-Related Reporting. The Task Force will be responsible for the operation of this first project of the European Lab, including planning, identifying good practices and challenges, conducting stakeholder outreach activities and the project report and other deliverables on climate-related reporting. Out of the successful candidates, EuropeanIssuers would like to give special recognition to four of whom are among its membership: Ms Alice Peyrard (Veolia); Ms Giulia Genuardi (ENEL); Mr Bertrand Janus (Total); and Mr Piotr Biernacki (SEG).

Ms Bindelle, Secretary General commented: “I would like to congratulate our members for their successful appointment to the Project Task Force. Their expertise and experience are an asset for the discussions within the Task Force. Sustainable Finance is an important matter and corporates play a key role in sustainability issues, such as energy transition and reporting processes. However, we believe that flexibility is key to avoid ‘one-size-fits-all’ rules and ensure that companies at different stages of growth have the possibility to adapt.”

Ms Alice Peyrard is the Director of Climate Change Commitment at Veolia which is the global leader in optimised resource management. Veolia designs and provides water, waste and energy management solutions that contribute to the sustainable development of communities and industries. Through its three complementary business activities, Veolia helps to develop access to resources, preserve available resources, and to replenish them. Veolia has worked hard to make an impact on sustainable development around the world and is successful in doing so which makes Ms Peyrard an excellent choice for the Project Task Force.

Ms Giulia Genuardi is the Head of Sustainability Planning and Performance Management at ENEL which is one of the world’s leading integrated player in the global power, gas and renewables markets. “Innovation” and “Sustainability” are at the core of ENEL’s vision because innovation can only drive progress if it is sustainable. As a result, ENEL has committed to helping achieve six of the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals. Ms Genuardi said in her response to being appointed to the Project Task Force, “I am honoured to have been appointed by the EFRAG to share experiences and points of view. Only by working all together, we will be able to tackle the challenge of transparent disclosure for all stakeholders." ENEL’s commitment to sustainability and innovation and Ms Genuardi’s extensive experience makes her a strong choice for the Project Task Force.

Mr Bertrand Janus is CSR Reporting Manager at Total. When asked about his appointment to the task force, Mr Janus said: “I am very pleased to have been appointed by EFRAG and I look forward to participating in this Project Task Force. Total publishes a dedicated Climate report each year since 2016. Total has also supported the TCFD recommendations in July 2017 and has included a TCFD section and correspondence table in its 2017 Registration document (annual report). Total was also a

member of the TCFD Oil & Gas Preparer Forum (with Eni, Equinor and Shell). I will be glad to bring my experience in climate-related disclosures to this Project Task Force.”

Mr Piotr Biernacki is Vice President of Stowarzyszenie Emitentów Giełdowych (SEG) which is the Polish Association of Listed Companies. SEG undertakes work which is conducive to the development of capital markets through educational, promotion, and  advocacy activities while representing the interests of publicly listed companies. Mr Biernacki explained: “I am honoured to be involved in the efforts assessing the current state of play of climate-related reporting by European companies, identify innovative practices and tackle the challenges related to the use of climate-related information by investors and other users. My goal in the task force will be to find ways to minimize compliance burdens for issuers disclosing climate-related information and identity development opportunities from which companies may benefit.”

The kick-off meeting of the European Corporate Reporting Lab’s first Project Task Force will be on 26 February 2019. This will be followed by the EFRAG organised conference “Fostering Innovation in Corporate Reporting” which will take place on 5 March 2019.

EuropeanIssuers would once again like to congratulate these four on their successful appointment to the European Corporate Reporting Lab’s first Project Task Force on Climate-Related Reporting. We are looking forward to their results of their work in the Project Task Force.
