European Energy Exchange: Electricity Prices 2004 Virtually Unchanged

Wholesale prices for electrical energy at the European Energy Exchange (EEX) have changed little in the course of 2004 compared to the price changes of the preceding year.

While the prices at the Spot Market sank by 3.3% to 28,52 Euro/MWh yearly average in 2004 (29,49 Euro/MWh in 2003), a price increase of 1.4% was determined on the De-rivatives Market for the base load year future 2005. Here the price for a base load delivery during the entire year 2005 increased from 32,82 Euro/MWh on the first trading day (2. January 2004) to 33,28 Euro/MWh on the last trading day (29. December 2004).

A total of 123 companies from 16 different countries currently participate in the exchange’s price determination process. A good half of these exchange participants has its seat outside of Germany.
