Euronext Paris Derivatives Markets Trading In October 2001 Sets new Record Of 37.7 Million Contracts +68.5% On October 2000

A record 37,735,748 futures and options contracts changed hands on Euronext Paris derivatives markets in October 2001, for a daily average 68.5% higher than in October 2000. The previous high was over 36 million in September 2001.

This set the total for the first ten months at 269 million contracts, or nearly 35% more than the 199 million traded in the same period of 2000.

At the end of October, total open interest was 66.9 million, 30.3% above the figure for September.

Equity and index futures also set new records, with the average daily trade volume for the month up 89.5% on October 2000, and the figure for the first ten months of 2001 up 56.23%. Short and long-term equity options reached new highs for both trading volumes and open interest during the month.

In fixed-income derivatives, 110,883 futures were traded, with open interest totalling 42,425 lots at month end.

Average daily trading in commodity contracts was up 119.5% from September 2001, while the year-on-year rise for the first ten months of the year was 44.17%.
