Eurex Trading Volume Up 16 Percent In July - 107 Million Contracts Traded On Eurex In July - Total Volume In 2006 To Date Reaches 931 Million Contracts, Up 27 Percent Year On Year

Eurex, the world's largest derivatives exchange, traded and cleared 107 million contracts in July, a 16 percent rise year-on-year (July 2005: 92 million contracts). Approximately 931 million contracts were traded in the first seven months of 2006, an increase of approximately 27 percent on the same period in 2005. Average daily trading volume at Eurex currently stands at 6.3 million contracts.

In July, the fixed-income derivatives segment was the most heavily traded segment at Eurex, with a total of 50.3 million contracts traded. This represents an increase of 19 percent on July 2005 (42 million contracts). In July approximately 21.7 million contracts were traded in the Euro-Bund Future, and increase of 11.8 percent year on year. The Euro-Bobl Future was up 15 percent with 11.2 contracts traded and the Euro-Schatz Future was also up approximately 13 percent year-on-year with 10.6 million contracts traded. Options on the Euro-Bobl Future also set a new record of over 2 million contracts for the first time in July.

In July, a total of 56.7 million contracts were traded the equity-based derivatives segment. Of these, 37.5 million contracts were based on equity index derivatives and 19.2 million contracts on equity derivatives (equity options and single stock futures). The most heavily traded equity derivative at Eurex in July was the Dow Jones EURO STOXX 50 index future, with 16.3 million contracts traded. This marks an increase of 39 percent year-on-year.

Approximately € 14.94 billion (single counting) was traded in July on the electronic trading platform Eurex Bonds, which rounds out Eurex's fixed-income product range. This represent an increase of 16 percent on the previous month (June 2006: €12.9 billion) and 7 percent on the previous year (July 2005: €13.96 billion).
