ETFGI, a leading independent research and consultancy firm on trends in the global ETF/ETP ecosystem, reported today that that assets invested in ETFs listed in Latin America reached US$7.99 billion at the end of June 2018; increasing by 3.91% from US$7.69 billion at the end of May. (All dollar values in USD unless otherwise noted.)

The S&P 500 was up 0.62% in June and 2.65% in the first half of 2018. International markets (developed ex US) and Emerging markets posted losses during June and during the first half of 2018, down 1.48% and 3.40% in June and 2.45% and 6.05% in the first half, respectively, driven by a strong dollar, trade concerns, and rising interest rates.
According to ETFGI’s June 2018 Latin America ETF industry insights report, an annual paid-for research subscription service, assets invested in ETFs listed in Latin America have increased by 17.6% year-to-date, from $6.80 Bn at the end of 2017. At the end of June 2018, the Latin America ETF industry had 47 ETFs, with 1,079 listings, from 33 providers on 5 exchanges.

In June 2018, ETFs listed in Latin America saw net inflows of $273 Mn. Equity products gathered the largest net inflows with $215 Mn, while inverse ETFs experienced the lowest net inflows with virtually zero flows. Year-to-date through end of June, ETFs listed in Latin America have seen net inflows of $1.72 Bn. Equity products have gathered the largest net inflows with $1.72 Bn, while currency ETFs experienced the largest net outflows with $28.9 Mn.
Investors have tended to invest in core, market cap and lower cost ETFs during 2018, with the iShares NAFTRAC (NAFTRAC MM) and Fondo Bursátil iShares COLCAP (ICOLCAP CB) capturing flows of $1.20 Bn and $174 Mn, respectively. A high proportion of net inflows year-to-date can be attributed to the top 20 ETFs by net new assets, which collectively gathered $1.91 Bn.
