ETF Landscape: Growth In Institutional Users Of Global ETFs Through Q3 2008

Date 05/03/2009

Barclays Global Investors has just published the Growth in Institutional users of global ETFs through Q3 2008, part of BGI's ETF Landscape series: please click here for a downloadable copy (please note, this may take a few moments to download). This report looks at the use of ETFs by institutional investors globally who have reported holding in their mutual fund holdings, or in different filing sources including 13F, 13D and 13G, proxy and other declarable stakes during the first nine months of 2008 at least one ETF based on data compiled by Thomson Reuters.

The remarkable growth of the ETF industry has had many positive consequences for investors. The entrance of more asset managers has boosted competition and supported innovation while the availability of more ETF products has increased choice. However, a less positive aspect of this growth has been an increasingly complex and challenging landscape for investors.

BGI's ETF Landscape series is aimed at providing professional investors with an up-to-date snapshot of latest key industry trends with a view to helping them make more informed decisions. The publication contains key data relating to five broad areas: ETFs and other ETPs, ETF and ETP providers, exchanges, index providers and users of ETFs.
