From now on, the "Transparency in Energy Markets"transparency platform of the European Energy Exchange (EEX) will publish generation of power from biomass as an additional category within the reporting of renewable energies. The data made available in the voluntary segment is reported by Austrian companies and can be viewed at the following link on the EEX transparency platform: http://www.transparency.eex.com/en/Voluntary%20Commitment%20of%20the%20Mar ket%20Participants/Power%20generation/available-generation-capacity
The companies which will provide biomass data as of now include Energie AG Oberösterreich Kraftwerke GmbH, Linz Strom GmbH, Tiroler Wasserkraft AG (Tiwag) and Wien Energie GmbH. The data volume initially provided by Austrian biomass facilities comprises a capacity of approx. 50 MW. This corresponds to approximately 10 percent of the biomass plants used for generating power in Austria.
Biomass generation data is reported in the voluntary segment because the data concerned is not covered by the statutory publication requirements which include data reports of generation facilities with an installed capacity of more than 100 MW. As a new feature, the generation data of the energy source “biomass” (so far shown under “others”) will be visible and transparent as an own category on the platform.
The segment of renewable energies is an essential component of the energy mix for the future. Against the background of the increasing share of renewables the expansion of the EEX transparency platform with biomass data forms yet another step aimed at conveying an overall impression of the generation situation. Several German companies are also planning to report biomass data on the platform and are in the preparatory process at the moment.
“Transparency in Energy Markets” is the neutral platform for energy market data which fulfils the statutory publication requirements and implements voluntary commitments of the market participants. The transparency platform for generation and consumption data (www.transparency.eex.com) was established by EEX together with the four German transmission system operators – 50Hertz Transmission GmbH, Amprion GmbH, TenneT TSO GmbH and TransnetBW GmbH – and the Austrian transmission system operator Austrian Power Grid AG. The platform is developed further and expanded in co-operation with the associations Oesterreichs Energie, BDEW, VKU, VIK and the Federal Network Agency. EEX is in charge of the operation of the plat- form, which comprises plausibility checking, anonymisation, aggregation and publica- tion of the data reported, in addition to supporting the reporting companies and users. At present, more than 40 companies from Germany, Austria and the Czech Republic submit data to the platform.
