In September 2015, trading volumes on the Power Derivatives Market of the European Energy Exchange (EEX) amounted to 225.8 TWh. Compared to the same month in the previous year, the volume increased by 46 % (September 2014: 154.3 TWh).
On the German power derivatives market (Phelix Futures), the trading volume increased by 11 % to 147.9 TWh, in addition to new records being achieved in the French (29.5 TWh), Italian (38.4 TWh) and Spanish (2.5 TWh) power markets.
The recently launched Cap Futures which enable participants to hedge price peaks on the German intraday market achieved a volume of 8,400 MWh while 439,200 MWh were traded in the new Power Options for France which EEX launched in late August.
The September volumes comprised 127.4 TWh registered at EEX for clearing. Clearing and settlement of all transactions was executed by European Commodity Clearing (ECC).
Emission Allowances
On the EEX Market for emission allowances, a total volume of 73.0 million tonnes of CO2 was traded in September, which is an increase of 62 % compared to the previous year (September 2014: 44.9 million tonnes of CO2). In September, primary market auctions contributed 54.5 million tonnes of CO2 to the total volume. The volume on the EUA secondary market more than doubled to 18.4 Mio. tonnes of CO2 (September 2014: 7.7 million tonnes of CO2).
Agricultural Products
In September, 1,424 contracts were traded in agricultural products at EEX. This includes 1,123 contracts (equal to 28,075 tonnes) traded in processing potatoes,
293 contracts (equal to 1,465 tonnes) from dairy and 8 contracts in meat & livestock (incorporating 32,000 kilograms of hog and 400 piglets).
New Participants
In September, EEX has acknowledged HWh Energimegling AS, Bergen, as new Non Trading Broker. BNP Paribas S.A. and Castleton Commodities Merchant Europe Sàrl have been admitted to the Spanish Derivatives Market. Total Gas & Power Ltd. was admitted in Nordic Power Futures. Furthermore, Energie Steiermark Business GmbH, GETEC Energie AG, Mercuria Energy Trading SA, RWE Supply & Trading GmbH and Vattenfall Energy Trading GmbH have been admitted to trade Cap Futures.
