EEX Supports Social Facilities In Leipzig With 3rd Annual “Social Day”

Date 13/09/2016

At the European Energy Exchange (EEX), social commitment is a matter of course. In recognition of this commitment, EEX carried out its third “Social Day” on 8 September 2016. 130 colleagues from across five locations supported social facilities in and around Leipzig with their everyday workload. This year, these facilities included Auwaldstation, Geyerhaus, the Pandechaion refugee shelter, the Ronald McDonald House, the headquarters for donations in kind and three retirement homes run by the Arbeiter-Samariter-Bund charity. The organisation of the project work was supported by the Leipzig volunteer agency.

The employees of EEX Group were able to support these facilities in a multitude of ways: In addition to crafts skills (e.g. for building and repairing seating areas), perseverance and “green fingers” were needed. At the retirement homes, our members of staff accompanied the residents on walks or kept them company during various leisure activities, while others diligently sorted donations and packed them in boxes at the headquarter for donations in kind.

Iris Weidinger, Management Board member in charge of human resources at EEX, emphasises: “We feel a very strong connection to the city in which we are based and, for this reason, we want to make a sustainable contribution to the environment and community in Leipzig. In addition to financial donations and donations in kind, the “Social Day” is a great opportunity to directly and personally support projects while getting to know the people who live and work at the various facilities. At the same time, with such a day, we also support solidarity among the members of our team as this brings together colleagues from different fields of work and different locations.”

All in all, EEX Group employs more than 450 employees at 14 locations worldwide – 200 of whom work at the EEX headquarters in Leipzig.
