EEX Presents Excellence Award At Brussels Reception – Marie Donnelly And Peder Andreasen Attend As Guest Speakers

At its annual reception in Brussels, the European Energy Exchange (EEX) presented the "EEX Excellence Award" for the fourth consecutive year on 21 October 2015. At the reception, which took place at the Brussels Centre of Fine Arts, Bozar, EEX welcomed Marie Donnelly, Director Renewables, Research and Innovation, Energy Efficiency at DG ENER, European Commission and Peder Andreasen, President, ENTSO-E, as guest speakers.

This year, EEX presented the “Excellence Award” to four outstanding academic papers. The award winners focused on “Optimised Market Area Cuts and their Evaluation within European Electricity trading” (Doctoral thesis by Dr Christopher Breuer, RWTH Aachen), “Empirical Investigation of the Integration of Regional and National Electricity Markets in Europe” (Master’s thesis by Jan Egidi, University of Cologne), “Going Renewable or Staying Nuclear: A Model-based Economic Analysis of Future Supply Scenarios for the French Electricity Market” (Master's thesis by Sita Seidel, University of Leipzig) and “Interacting Market in Electricity Wholesale: Forward and Spot and the Impact of Emissions Trading” (Doctoral thesis by Dr Nikolas Wölfing, Université Paris 1 Panthéon Sorbonne & Paris School of Economics).

"We are happy to have received such a large number of interesting and high caliber theses, which focus on energy and political subjects this year", commented Iris Weidinger, Chief Financial Officer of EEX and board member in charge of Human Resources at EEX Group. "Our Excellence Award recognizes and rewards the outstanding quality of the theses and we will continue to promote and contribute to the scientific discussion and the diverse aspects of the energy market and energy trading.”
