EEX: New Record Achieved In Dairy Futures

Date 02/12/2015

In November 2015, the European Energy Exchange (EEX) achieved a new monthly record in dairy futures totaling 1,579 contracts (equivalent to 7,895 tons). This is an increase of 61 % on the previous monthly record of 979 contracts (equivalent to 4,895 tons) which was registered at Eurex Exchange in August 2014. This is also the highest ever volume traded in a month on a futures market for dairy products in Europe.

The volume comprised 1,246 contracts, which were traded in Skimmed Milk Powder Futures (equivalent to 6,230 tons), therefore doubling the previous EEX record which was set in October 2015 (623 contracts; equals 3,115 tons) and 333 contracts which were traded in Butter Futures (corresponding to 1,665 tonnes).

The European Energy Exchange (EEX) is the leading energy exchange in Europe. It develops, operates and connects secure, liquid and transparent markets for energy and commodity products. At EEX, contracts on Power, Coal and Emission Allowances as well as Freight and Agricultural Products are traded or registered for clearing. Alongside EEX, EPEX SPOT (incl. APX-Belpex), Powernext, Cleartrade Exchange (CLTX) and Gaspoint Nordic are also part of EEX Group. Clearing and settlement of trading transactions are provided by the clearing house European Commodity Clearing (ECC).
