EEX Executes First Flemish EUA Auction

Date 26/02/2013

Today, the European Energy Exchange (EEX) executed the first auction on behalf of the Flanders region, one of three Belgian regions. In the auction, 2 million EUA have been sold at a price of 4.29 Euro/EUA. The total bidding amount was 6,401,000 EUA which means that participants demanded more than 3-fold the auction volume. 16 companies took part in the auction.

This auction was the first out of four, in which the Flemish region sells non-assigned amounts of units of the Flemish New Entrance Reserve (NER) for the second trading period of the EU Emissions Trading Scheme (EU ETS). In total, a volume of at least 8 million EUA is planned to be sold.

Together, EEX and Eurex offer their participants a platform for trading in emission allowances. In the framework of this cooperation, which was launched in December 2007, Eurex participants can trade the derivatives products for emission allowances listed on EEX through their existing infrastructure and a simplified admission process.
