EEX Achieves New Monthly Record In Dairy Products

Date 02/10/2018

The European Energy Exchange (EEX) reached a new monthly record in dairy products in September 2018. A total volume of 19,715 tonnes of goods equivalent was traded on the dairy derivatives market products which equals 3,923 traded contracts. This represents an increase of 39 % as against the previous monthly record in October 2017 (14,140 tonnes of goods equivalent).

In particular, new highs on the futures markets for butter and skimmed milk powder futures contributed to the overall volume: A volume of 7,030 tonnes was traded in butter futures (previous record: 6,910 tonnes traded in May 2017). In skimmed milk powder futures, a volume of 12,335 tonnes was traded which is a 40 % increase as against the previous monthly record in December 2016 (8,795 tonnes of goods equivalent).

Also in September, 125,000 kilogram of goods equivalent were traded in European Liquid Milk Futures which EEX launched in mid-August, offering a new tool for risk management which supplements EEX’s portfolio for the dairy markets.
