EDHEC-Risk Institute Welcomes Eight Distinguished New Members To Its International Advisory Board

EDHEC-Risk Institute is pleased to announce that eight new members have joined its international advisory board, which brings together distinguished scholars, representatives of regulatory bodies as well as senior executives from business partners and other leading institutions.

The role of the international advisory board is to validate the relevance and goals of the research programme proposals presented by the institute’s management and to evaluate research outcomes with respect to their potential impact on industry practices.

The 47 members of the board also advise on the objectives and contents of projects deriving from the expertise of the institute, thereby ensuring that graduate and executive programmes remain at the forefront of developments in the marketplace.

The eight new members are as follows:

Mr Jacques Beyssade, Chief Risk Officer, Natixis

Jacques Beyssade

Jacques Beyssade began his career in 1984 at Crédit Lyonnais as a financial analyst. He headed up the Champs Elysées Corporate Banking Branch (1994-1997) before being appointed Country Manager of Korea (1997-2001). He later became Head of Debt Markets in New York (2001-2005).

In 2006, he took up the position of Head of Calyon’s Capital Markets division for the Asia-Pacific region. He joined Natixis in 2008 and, since July 2009, he is the Chief Risk Officer of the bank and a member of its Executive Committee.

Jacques Beyssade, 50, is a graduate of HEC (1984) and has served as a Foreign Trade Advisor to the French Government since 1998.

Ms Suzanne Bishopric, Director, Investment Management Division, United Nations Joint Staff Pension Fund

 Suzanne Bishopric

Ms. Suzanne Bishopric is the Director of Investment Management Division of the United Nations Joint Staff Pension Fund. As Director, Ms. Bishopric is responsible for a portfolio of approximately US$40 Billion composed of equities, fixed income, Private Equity, commodities and real estate investments diversified throughout the globe. Since assuming responsibility for the United Nations Pension Fund investments in July of 2007, Ms. Bishopric has inaugurated extensive improvements of the control environment, including the installation of an automated trade order management system, risk management software, ethics standards, compliance policies and further diversification of the global portfolio.

Ms. Bishopric has an MBA from Harvard Business School of Business Administration with an emphasis in finance and agribusiness. She is a graduate of Harvard University with an Honours degree in biological anthropology. She is fluent in Spanish and Portuguese, with conversational ability in Arabic, Japanese and French.

Ms. Bishopric has served on the Board of Directors of the Harvard Club of NYC, and Advisory Boards of the Africa Emerging Markets Fund, The IFC-World Bank Africa, Latin America and Caribbean Fund and the Order of St. John of Jerusalem, as Chancellor.

Mrs Sally Bridgeland, Chief Executive Officer, BP Pension Trustees Ltd

As CEO of BP Pension Trustees Limited, Sally has the delegated authority to direct and oversee the running of the BP Pension Fund.  Her role includes advising the Trustee Board on the Fund’s strategy, implementing its investment and administration policies and setting and monitoring in-house administration and investment management teams.  Her responsibilities require her to draw on her extensive pensions and investment knowledge gained during a twenty-year career with consultants Aon Hewitt.

Sally is a Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries and has a first class degree in Mathematics from Imperial College, London.

Mr Nicolas Gaussel, Chief Investment Officer, Lyxor Asset Management

Nicolas Gaussel joined LYXOR AM in 2009 first as Global Head of Structured and Quantitative Management before being appointed as Chief Investment Officer in 2012. Prior, he served as a Head of Asia at SGAM Alternative Investments between 2006 and 2009, based in Tokyo. Previous to this position, he was a co-head of structuring at SGAM AI, which he joined, in 2001. Nicolas began his career as a “Quant” with HSBC, in Paris.

Nicolas holds an engineering degree from French Ecole Centrale de Paris and a PhD in Economics from Paris La Sorbonne. In addition to this, he has been a quantitative finance lecturer in different master programs and contributed various articles and academic conferences in the field.

Mr Peter Heng, Senior Vice President and Chief Investment Officer, NTUC Income Insurance Co-operative Ltd

Peter Heng is the Chief Investment Officer at NTUC Income Insurance Co-operative Limited, a Singapore-based insurance company.

He has 27 years experience in the investment business and has spent the past 17 years specifically managing insurance assets. His experience included overseeing the investment business at another large Singaporean insurance group, where he developed the investment capability to manage the insurance funds and set up its asset management subsidiary to develop the insurer’s asset management business. 

He holds a Bachelor of Science (Econ) Hons degree from the London School of Economics.

Mr Masamichi Kono, Vice Commissioner for International Affairs, Financial Services Agency, Japan, Chairman of the IFRS Foundation Monitoring Board, Former Chairman of the IOSCO Board

 Masamichi Kono

Masamichi Kono was appointed Vice Commissioner for International Affairs of the Financial Services Agency of Japan (JFSA) in July 2009. In his current capacity, he represents the JFSA in various international bodies and meetings, and is responsible for coordinating policies relating to international affairs for the JFSA. He is also serving as Chairman of the IFRS Foundation Monitoring Board.

He has a long career in financial supervision and the regulation of financial services, both in Japan and in the international arena, since joining the public service in 1978.

He was Secretary to the WTO Financial Services Committee between 1994 and 1999, as Counselor of the Trade in Services Division, World Trade Organization. He has also served for 4 years at the OECD Secretariat.

He was Chairman of the IOSCO Technical Committee since April 2011 until May 2012, and thereafter served as Chairman of the IOSCO Board until the end of his term in March 2013.

Since 2005, he is Visiting Professor at University of Hiroshima, Graduate School of Social Sciences (Finance Program).

He is a graduate of Tokyo University.

Mr Tony Lally, Chief Executive Officer, Sunsuper

Tony Lally 

 Tony has been CEO of Sunsuper since 2007. He has led the transformation of the fund through a number of strategic initiatives which included in-sourcing all member services. The fund provides an integrated member service model with includes the provision of information, advice and financial planning designed to maximise retirement benefits.

Tony has over 30 years senior executive experience in the insurance, superannuation and wealth management industries in a number of countries. Tony spent five years based in Japan where he developed and implemented strategic plans for funds management, actuarial and insurance businesses throughout the Asia-Pacific region. He was previously with a major bank for 10 years where he led Australia’s largest retail funds management business.

Tony is a Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries (UK), Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries of Australia, Chair of the Board of ASFA and is a member of the ASFA Policy Committee. He is on the Board of ICPM and has presented papers at a number of international pension fund conferences and is co-author of a paper on Industry Funds in Australia.

Mr Tokihiko Shimizu, Director General, Research Department and Investment Policy Actuary, Government Pension Investment Fund (GPIF), Japan

Tokihiko Shimizu

Tokihiko Shimizu is Director-General of Research Department and Investment Policy Actuary at Government Pension Investment Fund (GPIF), Japan. He is responsible for designing and implementing the strategic asset allocation. He also lectures in actuarial mathematics and financial mathematics at Graduate School of Waseda University.

He has 25 years experience in public and private pension fund management since he joined the Ministry of Health and Welfare in 1987. Between 1998 and 2001, he was deeply involved in the revamp of the Japanese pension system, by legislating Defined Benefit Corporate Pension Act and Defined Contribution Pension Act. He also spent four years at the Pension Fund Association as Director of Actuarial Department.

He is a Certified Pension Actuary and holds a BS in Mathematics from Sophia University.
