ECX Dec’07 Contract Goes To Expiry - Record Volume For Physical Delivery As Contract Closes On ECX/ICE Futures Europe

On 17 December 2007, the ICE ECX CFI December 2007 futures contract month expired. In total 51,411 lots were taken to delivery representing over 51 million tonnes of CO2 EU allowances for the Phase I benchmark contract of the EU Emissions Trading Scheme.

This represents the largest delivery of any ICE Futures Europe contract to date. This year’s expiry tops the ECX EUA Dec’06 contract delivery last year when 45,843 lots were brought to delivery representing almost 46 million tonnes of CO2.

The final settlement price for the Dec’07 contract was €0.01 per tonne, while the all time high was registered on April 19th 2006 at €32.05.

The Jan’08 will now serve as the market’s front month contract. As from 18 December 2007, the ECX indices (ICE ECX CFI Morning Marker and ICE ECX CFI Emission Index) will be published for the Jan’08, Dec’08, Dec’09 and Dec’10 contract months.
