The Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC) today hosted an event for members of the Indian Business and Professional Council (IBPC) in Dubai with the objective of boosting financial industry and investment ties between India and the UAE.
The event was attended by His Excellency Talmiz Ahmed, the Indian Ambassador to the UAE; and senior DIFC officials including Nasser Al Shaali, CEO of DIFC Authority. Dr. Nasser Saidi, Chief Economist of the DIFC Authority delivered the main presentation at the event.
Nasser Al Shaali, CEO of DIFC Authority said: “The rapid transformation of the Indian and UAE economies over the last decade, and their growing global prominence have given both countries tremendous new opportunities to boost trade and economic ties. Some of the most exciting opportunities for partnerships between India and the UAE lie in the financial industry. The emergence of the Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC) as a global hub for institutional finance and a gateway for capital and investment in the region, gives Indian financial institutions and service providers an opportunity to establish new productive links with the GCC region. The event was organised to tap the complementarities between India and the UAE in the areas of investment, financial services and capital markets.”
Abbas Ali Mirza, President, IBPC said: “The Indian business community is keen to work with the Dubai International Financial Centre to facilitate deeper the relationship between business communities in India and the UAE. Over the past few years, there have been strong moves by the governments of both the UAE and India to establish a strong economic dialogue between the two countries. This initiative of the Dubai International Financial Centre to reach out and dialogue with the Indian community will create a powerful new impetus for greater interaction and cooperation between the two economies, which in recent years have increased their role and prominence in the global economy.”
Held at the DIFC Conference Centre, the event addressed a wide range of topics including the regional macro-economic outlook; trade and investment relations between India and the UAE; and the opportunities that DIFC offers Indian companies.
Over 100 members of the Indian Business and Professional Council, including heads of large business corporations, senior business executives, small business owners and entrepreneurs attended the event. Abbas Ali Mirza, President, IBPC and Navin Kapoor, Secretary General IBPC spoke at the event along with .Husam Hourani, Partner, Al Tamimi.
IBPC Dubai was established in 2003, following the unification of the Indian Business Council (IBC), Overseas Indians Economic Forum (OIEF) and Business & Professional Club (BPC). IBPC Dubai is the recognised representative organisation of the Indian business community in Dubai.
