Dubai Gold & Commodities Exchange December 2006 – Market Activity Report

Year 2006 – Highlights

The Exchange ended its first fiscal year with a string of achievements. During the period five new contracts were introduced for trading. On March 28th 2006, Silver contracts were launched for trading. Three currency contracts – Euro/USD, GBP/USD and Yen/USD followed and started trading from June 12, 2006. In the fourth quarter of the year i.e. 30th October, 2006, the Fujairah Fuel Oil Futures Contract was added to the Exchange’s product portfolio.

During 2006, a total of 612862 contracts valued at $15.35 billion were traded. The peak performance came in the month of November, when the Exchange registered its highest volume of 81493 contracts valued at $2.82 billion. The last trading day of 2006 saw 6714 contracts traded - the highest number of contracts traded in a single day. Gold contracts continued to lead the table with a total of 497641 kilograms traded during the year valued at nearly $10 billion. For the year, the currency contracts churned a volume of 59176 contracts valued at $4.78 billion.
