Overview
Per the BATS/Direct Edge Integration Schedule, effective Monday, June 30, 2014, test connectivity to the new EDGA/EDGX production environments located within the Equinix NY5 data center will be available to Members.
BATS will assume EDGA and EDGX Members desire to maintain similar logical port configurations between the existing NY4 and the future NY5 data centers. As such, at the end of June, BATS will take account of how many ports each Member has in the existing NY4 environment and will automatically create the same number of ports in NY5 for each Member with certain restrictions as follows. As of June 30, 2014, Members may view all the NY5 ports that have been automatically created on their behalf using their BATS Member Web Portal account. Access to the BATS Member Web Portal can be obtained by contacting the BATS Trade Desk.
Order Entry Port Default Configuration
- For each existing NY4 FIX port, a FIX port with EDGA/EDGX Compatibility mode enabled will be created in NY5.
- Members that wish to immediately convert to the new standard BATS FIX Specification will need to use the Logical Port Request form in the BATS Member Web portal. Through the Logical Port Request form, request a port “Modify” indicating the firm would like to have “Compatibility mode” disabled on the selected ports.
- For each existing NY4 XPRS port, a BOE port (with v2 support) will be created in NY5. Certification is required before any BOE v2 ports will be enabled to accept production orders.
- Default port attributes existing in NY4 will not be replicated to NY5. While the BATS exchange platform supports most existing port settings, there are some differences and a variety of new settings for Members to consider. Members should review all possible default port attributes with the appropriate integration technical specification and use the Logical Port Request form in the BATS Member Web portal to request a port “Modify” of their default port settings for their new NY5 ports.
- All Members will be required to re-Certify on the NY5 trading platform. Certifications will begin taking place at the start of the 4th quarter in 2014 and more details regarding certification requirements will be provided prior to the 4th quarter.
- Member trading MPIDs allowed to trade on order entry ports will not be enabled by default. Upon certification on the new BATS trading platform in NY5 in the 4th quarter, Members will need to work with the BATS Trade Desk to confirm the appropriate MPIDs designated to the desired ports as “Allowed” for trading.
Market Data Port Default Configuration
- For each existing NY4 Unicast Depth of Book port, a TCP PITCH port will be created in NY5.
- Members with existing NY4 Retransmission and Recovery ports for Next Gen Multicast Market data will not have GRP and Spin ports automatically created for them in NY5. Members that desire GRP and/or Spin ports for Multicast PITCH will be required to request the ports using the Logical Port Request form in the BATS Member Web portal.
FIX DROP Port Default Configuration
- For each existing NY4 FIX DROP port with execution only configured, a Standard FIX DROP port will be created in NY5.
- For each existing NY4 FIX DROP port with additional non-execution information enabled, an Order by Order FIX DROP port will be created in NY5. Members with Order by Order FIX DROP ports may refer to the Integration FIX specification for a list of all messages distributed on Order by Order FIX DROP. Unknown and unexpected messages should be ignored.
Using the BATS Member Web Portal forms described below, Members may request updates to their NY5 logical port configuration effective June 30, 2014.
Ordering Physical and Logical Port Connections for NY5
To order new physical and logical port connections to BATS in NY5, Members must use a new web form located within the BATS Member Web Portal. Links to the respective form are found in the menu as shown below. Note that only Members with BATS Member Web Portal access that are designated by their firm to have access for requesting new ports will be able to utilize this form.
Each form will provide all the information required for the BATS Trade Desk or NOC to complete your request.
Reminder: Port Fees
BATS will not be assessing physical or logical connectivity fees for Member connections into the new environments being deployed in NY5 until the respective markets’ production environments have been decommissioned in their existing data center and are fully functional within NY5.
Port fees for existing production platforms can be found within the Fee Schedules on the public web sites:
Reminder: Latency Equalization within Equinix NY4 and NY5 Data Centers
BATS has engineered equal fiber length and latency for Members within either the NY4 or NY5 data center. When connecting to a BATS market in NY5 from either data center, the fiber between each Member’s data center space to the BATS markets in NY5 will be equidistant as verified through optical testing.
Please note that Members connecting to a BATS market in NY5 from either NY4 or NY5 will be required to utilize a Single Mode Fiber connection. Members with existing physical connections of any type to EDGA/EDGX within NY4 will be supported through the integration, but will have higher latency than any new connections regardless of proximity to the EDGA/EDGX data center space in NY4. In order to receive equal latency, Members with existing physical connections within NY4 will need to establish new connections to EDGA/EDGX.
